Why was this the Best Christmas Ever? The week before Christmas John answered the phone to hear his brother Don on the other end. John got off the phone grinning from ear to ear. He said, "That was The Best conversation I've had with my brother in soooooo long." Donald explained to John that he had been sober for over two months. He explained to John how he's learning so much about himself now that he's not drunk all the time!! Don was sharing with John how things he thought were "issues" in his life, truly aren't at all what they were made up to be in his alcohol-soaked mind. John was so thankful to hear the excitement in Don's voice, and hear how he's been able to work on changing his life. Don offered to pay for John and I to fly to Hawaii to be with him for Christmas, but obviously plans had already been set for Christmas in California, as well as not wanting Don to spend that kind of money on us.So we wake up Christmas morning to call Don and wish him a Merry Christmas!! Don then gives us the Best Christmas Present ever! He explains how he and a friend went down on the beach at Sunrise Christmas morning. Just as the sun was rising on the Maui beach, Don got down and asked Christ into his heart and asked God to direct his life from now on since he's not done such a great job on his own!!!!!!!!!!! Salvation for Don Turner!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Praise the Lord!!!!!!
Don explained to us that that is the reason he wanted to fly John and I out to Hawaii because he had planned to do it Christmas morning, as if he needed to make an appointment with God!! How awesome to know that the Lord is ALWAYS there when we're ready to come back to Him!! When Don told me what he did, I simply said, "Wow," as the tears streamed down my face. "Is that all you can say," Donald asks. "Yes, that's all I can say, Wow!" Then I snapped out of my amazement and said, "Now you'll be stuck with me as your sister-in-law here and in Heaven now that you've accepted Christ as your Savior!" :)
So we have this awesome Christmas Miracle Book that we keep in the motor home for reflecting on Christmas Miracles, and we added one to the front page of our own: "Donald Turner, New Life 12/25/08!"
